Bret And Vince (Includes This Weeks Raw Angle)

I have been one of the biggest critics of the back and forth waste of time of this angle but I was marking out like a little b!tch on Tuesday morning when I watched the latest twist to an otherwise uninteresting angle. I thought the awful broken leg segment was filmed to cover for Bret's inability to work to his old standard but the fact that it was all a con by Hart to screw Vince was something I never saw coming. I think the Mania build up this year has been better than it has for many years which is even more impressive based on the fact they have loads of marquee matches on the card. Although I thought this one had been built poorly it was all pointing towards Monday's revelation and it has been totally worth it in my opinion.

How To Solve A Problem Like Triple H?

Its WrestleMania time and The Game has no title, no feud and I dont think the rumoured match up with Sheamus will be strong enough for WWE to put on at the big 1. Another option could be the MITB match but I think Hunter would see this as a step down the ladder, what with him being the cerebral assasin and what not. So I ask, what do you think Triple H will be doing at WrestleMania??

Can'T Believe I'M Saying This, But I'M Boycotting Wwe

After seeing the results of the Elimination Chamber, I've decided that WWE is no longer worth watching. All the changes that have been made just lately are changes I just don't agree with. The first one I was upset about is Survivor Series being cancelled. Survivor Series was a great concept which helped to build more stars up from midcard. For instance last year, Kofi Kingston received a big push in popularity after being the sole survivor in his survivor match. Over the years many wrestlers have become bigger stars because of the Survivor Series format, and I feel this is a step backwards in the fight to make more stars.

Another thing I don't agree with is taking the Money in the Bank match out of Wrestlemania and giving it its own PPV. MITB made Wrestlemania and gave it a unique edge, with that now taken away, to me it feels like Wrestlemania will just become a regular supershow. I know MITB was relatively new, but it gave Wrestlemania a new sense of importance to me, and I'm sure many WWE wrestlers probably feel the same.

Another thing that bugs me is why the Championships are brand specific if people are just going to cross over and take the titles to their brands? (Batista as WWE Champion? Come on!) If the Championships are brand specific, then thats fine, but if not then they may as well just unify them and forget the brand extension.

Although I agree with the WWE NXT concept, I don't like the idea of it being a reality show, purely because there are far too many reality shows these days already. Also I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking the pairing of Bryan Danielson with The Miz as his mentor seems an odd choice given Danielson's reputation compared to The Miz. To me, this seems to have been planned to give it a more reality show based edge. Although I agree with some of the points stated by The Miz in his blog.

Many people wont agree with me, and thats cool, but these are my opinions and for these reasons and a few others, I feel that for now, WWE doesn't appeal to me. TNA has been improving recently with Hogan and Bischoff at the helm (Cant believe I'm saying that either) And after going to the recent TNA show in Bournemouth, you definitely get more for your money with TNA. So for now, TNA is my number 1 choice.

I'd be interested to hear other people's views on this.

Nxt Mentors

Wrestle Zone UK have reported the following:

Quote

cast member information for the NXT television show, which begins next Tuesday night on Syfy. The eight developmental wrestlers listed first followed by the names of their main roster mentors.

-Wade Barrett with Chris Jericho.

-Justin Gabriel with Matt Hardy.

-Skip Sheffield with MVP.

-Michael Tarver with Carlito.

-Daniel Bryan with The Miz.

-Heath Slater with Christian.

-Darren Young with C.M. Punk.

-David Otunga with R-Truth.

Powell's POV: Where's Kaval (a/k/a Low-Ki)? Here's hoping they've opted to call him up to the main roster and this isn't a case of him simply not making the cut. As I've reported numerous times, the idea of using Kaval as a masked opponent for Rey Mysterio has been pitched in the past, so perhaps the company will go in that direction instead. Another rumored wrestler who didn't make the cut is Joe Hennig, the son of the late Curt "Mr. Perfect" Hennig.

Daniel Bryan is former ROH Champion Bryan Danielson. It's fun to see him paired with Miz, as they have such contrasting personalities that it should make for good television and could lead to a quality feud. Meanwhile, Otunga is engaged to actress Jennifer Hudson. He was also a cast member on the VH1 reality show "I Love New York 2."

what are everyone's thoughts on this

Survivor Series Is Gone

From 411mania.com/wrestling

Quote

During today's WWE Conference call, Vince McMahon announced that after 23 years, that the company would be dropping the Survivor Series name. The Survivor Series is the second longest running WWE PPV title in the company's history. Here is Vince McMahon's quote from the call…

"We think that Survivor Series is obsolete, as far as that title is concerned. It was something that worked many, many years ago, in terms of a creative standpoint, various teams competing. That really is not advantageous as the consumer now looks as what actually they are buying. And it's such a broad ... Survivor Series yes, many years ago, was one of the original four pay-per-views, but it's outlasted its usage and it is one of the things in terms of rebranding, this year and going forward, that will be rebranded. No longer will we have that title, Survivor Series."

OK, WTF? I know the buyrates for the Survivor Series are down. So you change the name? How is that going to help, it just kills tradition and gets rid of a recognizeable brand name.

Wwe Nxt

The show is being pitched as a reality based show, which will focus on the personalities of the young guns in the WWE. That's all that's pretty much being said, but from that I'm imagining there won't be a lot of wrestling, and instead there will be lots of vignettes and maybe training videos. If executed right it could be a pretty good concept, but there is a lot of room for failure with a show like this. What do we all think?

Booking, Great Then Awful In 24 Hours

I was delighted and pleasantly surprised with how well the Royal Rumble was booked. On the undercard I though Taker did a great job of putting over Rey without putting the strap on him and I thought it was a solid if unspectactular undercard.

In the rumble match it was gloriously booked with some big names crashing out early like Punk and Hunter. On a personal note I was delighted to see Drew Galloway (he will always be Galloway to me) get ring time with DX and hold his own with some top stars. The final four, the Shawn elimination and the camera angles with Edge looking over Cena's shoulder were beautifully shot and the whole Rumble seemed special, more so than it usually does

24 hours later RAW has a guest host that doesn't host anything and the only thing of note he does is announce a match for next week's show. They put Elimination Chamber qualifier matches on where 5 out of 6 seemed obvious who was going over. Rhodes or Cena anyone? The only one that I was on the fence with about who would go over was Show v Kofi and they even threw a stupid finish into that match. The Hart thing was nothing flash at all but there is still a lot of legs in this storyline and we're much close to the starting traps than the finish line so I won't complain too much about that. The DX chants during this segment just show how little history the fans understand about this whole real life angle

Smackdown 29/1/10

So what did people think of this week's edition of Smackdown?

I found it pretty entertaining, easily the best weekly show put out by the Big Two again - Mcintyre & Morrison put on a cracker (with a sick-looking finish), we saw a taster for a future Rey/HBK match to take place on a bigger stage down the line, Layla took the Piggie James schtick to the next level, and an odd finish was booked in the Jericho/Truth match...

What are people's opinions on how the Rumble and Mania are shaping up after the events of the week?

Death Of Tna?

Thought I'd make a comeback with a subject that's been on my mind recently.

Has TNA commited suicide by hiring Hogan and Bischoff?

When the news first hit it seemed like a great idea, Hogan and Bischoff have tons of experience in booking and have worked together with great success in the past. And with WCW dead and burried it was assumed that they had learnt from their mistakes, but now in TNA it seems like history is repeating itself. Somehow TNA has gotten worse since the take over.

All Hogan seems to do on TV is put himself over, even to the extent of making Jeff Jarrett a heel after Hogan got booed. Considering Jeff's role in TNA and the respect he has recieved from the fans it just seems total foolishness to suddenly turn him heel because the fans were cheering for him. He claims to be working toward making new stars but I can't really see that happening. Chris Daniels for instance went from main eventing the past two ppvs to being pushed down to midcard to wrestle Val Venus of all people.

The return of The NWO, or The Band as they call it, is just awful. To suggest that they are trying to improve TNA by bringing in Hall, who can't take bumps any more, and Waltman, who admitidly can still go but sucks on the mic, to join Nash who already shouldn't be wrestling. I just don't understand where they are coming from. NWO worked in the past because those guys could all still work well, nowadays they are too old and the NWO gimmick has been done to death. Plus haven't TNA just come out of a young guys vs old guys angle with the MEM? I know storylines get repeated but this is a bit much.

Then the new stars who have been shunned. The British Invasion are basically off TV now, which means no Doug Williams who deserves better. Desmond Wolfe for some reason went from having high quality matches with kurt angle and seemed very to be in a very promising position, to wrestling mid carders. Ken Kennedy came back to PPV and got huge pops, but was forced to be heel for some reason. And then they turn AJ heel for no reason at all, other then to get Flair on TV. Nothing makes any sense in TNA any more, if it ever did before (Hey that rhymes!) and I can honestly say I probably won't be watching unless there is nothing better on TV. Especially since Awesome Kong may be leaving.

Saying all this I am going to the Manchester show because I bought tickets last year, and hopefully that should be good because there will be no storyline crap, no Hogan or Bischoff and no NWO, just good wrestling, and in the 6 sided ring to boot!
